“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela.
The literacy rate in Rajasthan has gained momentum in last three years under Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The quality and level of education in Rajasthan is impacting the educational landscape of India. Moreover, the Pink City – Jaipur – takes pride to host the euphoric Jaipur Literature Festival. The literary event calls upon writers and thinkers around the globe.
Smt Raje’s vision on education in Rajasthan is far-sighted of the brighter, prosperous and developed Rajasthan. She believes that education is the building block of overall development of the State. Education is the most influencing factor for eliminating gender inequality, reducing poverty, preventing needless illness and developing oneself, society, and the State sustainably. The learning process continues lifelong.
Smt Raje has focussed on framing policies, schemes, plans and initiatives for leading the State on the path of progress. Following are the steps taken to strengthen the roots of knowledge:
School Integration: The government has integrated all the primary/upper primary schools with the nearby secondary/senior secondary schools so that they become better institutions and can provide quality education to the children under better supervision. This has not closed down any of the school rather just clubbed so that the management could be improved and students can receive better environment for studies.
Swami Vivekanand Model Schools: With an aim to provide quality education to students from Std 6th to 12th in remote rural areas, the State Government has set up around 66 special schools under Swami Vivekananda Model School. These institutions will emphasise on teaching Science, Mathematics and English to the rural children.
Hamaari Betiyaan Yojana: This education scheme facilitates two girls coming in the merit list of Secondary Board Examination and one girl topper from a BPL family with financial assistance of Rs 2.25 lakh.
Rajshri Yojana: Most of the families consider their girls as burden and don’t support their education. This scheme provides essential financial support for girl children of the weaker section in the form of grants as scholarships in schools empowering them for their studies and career.
Adarsh and Utkarsh Vidyalayas: These Vidyalayas ensure overall development of students and provides basic infrastructural facilities like sufficient number of classrooms, boundary wall, playground, computer labs, internet connections, library, laboratory and separate toilets for boys and girls. Currently, 9,895 Adarsh Senior Secondary Schools are providing education from class 1 to 12 and 9,610 Utkarsh schools are providing education from class 1 to 8 at panchayat level.
Apni Beti Yojana: This Scheme provides an opportunity to the legislators, magistrates, collectors and people with reputed jobs to adopt two daughters each and give them the life of un-compromised sustenance.
Shaardey Girls’ Hostel: In order to provide safe and secure environment for girls, Shaardey Girls’ Hostel Scheme was launched in educationally backward blocks (EBB) of the State. This provides a residence to the girls studying in 11th and 12th standard. Currently, 151 hostels are operational in this education scheme with 9,400 girl students being enrolled.
Education in Rajasthan will reap the fruit of efforts made by the State Government very soon. The success of policy interventions and governance is best measured by the happiness of citizens.
