Annapurna Bhandar Yojana – Step towards a new Era

In order to provide the general public with daily products for the household at subsidized prices, Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje announced the “Annapurna Bhandar Yojana” which is running successfully in the state. Presently, 5008 Annapurna Bhandars are operating in the state. Public distribution system was never scaled to such an enormous level which certainly is a knock on the door of a new era wherein every family of the state can get the necessary items of their daily need near their home.

The Scheme is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model which aims at providing consumer goods at discounted prices. A new era of public distribution system has started with the introduction of the PPP model in this Scheme. Smt Raje got this idea during her visit to Tamatia Village in Dungarpur where the ration shop, small bank, seeds and fertilizers and grocery products were being made available at one place.

The project focuses on facilitating quality food near citizen’s doorstep. It is a boon for people living in villages and distant areas. Annapurna Bhandar is also referred as “Rural Mall”. The range of products available at Annapurna Bhandars are edible oils, pulses, spices, biscuits, cosmetics, soaps, washing powder, shampoo, toothpastes, pens, pencils, notebooks, phenyl, toilet cleaners, etc. Further, more categories of products will be added to the list.

Features of Annapurna Bhandar Yojana

  •         Public Private Partnership (PPP) model is the most unique feature of the project which ensures a next level modernization in Public Distribution System (PDS) and also the choice of quality products for daily consumption.
  •         The project stands as one of the biggest entrepreneur drive which includes more than 5000 fair price shop dealers converting into entrepreneurs.
  •         Under the Scheme, the discount on price will be shared by the consumer and the dealer in the ratio of 60: 40 which will ensure reasonable profits and reasonable prices.
  •         Annapurna Bhandar Yojana has expanded the capabilities of the fair price shops (FPS) by sharing modern trade practices with the owners of these shops. Hence, the Scheme can be looked at as the initiative towards development of renowned skills among the owners as well.

Evolution of new Era with Annapurna Bhandar Yojana is a positive step towards development of the state.
