“Annapurna Rasoi Yojana” – an ambitious scheme launched by the Government of Rajasthan which aims at fulfilling the daily food requirements of the citizens. The project provides food to the people at subsidised prices and thus truly follows the taglines “Sabke Liye Bhojan, Sabke Liye Samman” which means “Food for All, Respect for All”.
A statement was released by the government just after the launch of the Annapurna Rasoi Yojana which stated that “The CM launched the scheme by feeding a Dalit and a Gurjar woman at the (scheme’s) launch on Jaipur Municipal Corporation campus. The CM relished a hearty meal of bajre ki roti, lehsun ki chutney and besan gatte ki sabzi with Munni alias Kiran and Kailashi Gurjar in the presence of (UDH minister) Shrichand Kriplani, (BJP state president) MLA Ashok Parnami, and Mayor Ashok Lahoti.”
With breakfast for Rs 5 and lunch/dinner for Rs 8 each, the scheme aims to benefit “labourers, rickshaw pullers, auto-rickshaw drivers, students, working women, senior citizens, and others”. Annapurna Rasoi Yojana has been planned with the primary objective of providing food to the needy and to those who can’t afford it at regular prices.
The prices of the meals have been kept very low keeping the people belonging to the BPL category in mind. The actual price that is disclosed by the government is Rs. 21.70/- for breakfast and Rs. 23.70/- for lunch. Out of this amount, the citizens need to bear only Rs. 5/- and Rs. 8/- respectively for breakfast and lunch. The rest of the amount is taken care by the Government of Rajasthan itself.
The meals are provided via Annapurna Vans which serves food across the state. The vans carry a kitchen in themselves wherein the fresh food is cooked and is sold to the citizens. The van staff has a special uniform and keeping the basic hygiene of the food in mind, the staff wears gloves, caps and aprons while cooking and serving the food. The Local Self-Government department of Rajasthan is the Nodal agency for this Yojana.
Looking at the steps taken by the government for the citizens of the state, it is clear that the government truly intends to develop Rajasthan into a well-established state employability-wise, infrastructure-wise and now, health-wise as well.
