The government of Rajasthan has taken many appreciable steps towards the public welfare and development, out of which the e-initiative projects have been the most effective.
While Bhamashah Yojana has been the project which was initiated keeping in mind the development of the state, e-PDS is the project which has been helpful in reaching the common public directly.
The e-PDS project is accessible only if the citizens are enrolled under Bhamashah Yojana. Let us take an insight about both projects and how are they successfully contributing towards the development of Rajasthan.
Bhamashah Yojana was introduced in the year 2008 and in 2014 there were a few more objectives added to it to empower women of the state by giving them financial independence. Women were given the status of the head of the family, were enrolled under the scheme, and bank accounts were opened under their name. The project aimed at providing an end to end service delivery platform to transfer cash and non-cash benefits to the beneficiaries directly. The project’s primary objective is transparency while distributing the benefits among the citizens of the state.
According to the new objectives added to the Bhamashah project, Bhamashah Card is provided under this new scheme and this card is linked to the bank account of the head lady of the house. The card works on biometric verification system to make sure the benefits reach the correct beneficiary.
There are cash benefits as well as non-cash benefits which are entitled under this scheme. They are:
- Educational scholarships
- E -Public Distribution system (e- PDS)
- Social security pensions
- MNREGA payments etc.
Benefits of other schemes are also included under this vast project. They are:
- Distribution of Scooties to the tribal girl students.
- Janani Suraksha Yojana
- Unemployment Allowance
- Skill Training etc.

The Public Distribution System is a national-level food security system which has been established by Government of India under the Ministry of Food Consumer Affairs jointly with the governments of different states of the country. It aims at attaining national food security.
The Government of Rajasthan has taken various steps to remove false withdrawals, deliver higher number of products and improve the efficiency through the PDS system. These initiatives are:
- Aadhar Based Identification of the beneficiary.
- Distribution of both PDS and Non-PDS items.
- Introduction of PPP model in PDS in the form of Annapurna Bhandar Yojana
Aadhar Based Identification of Beneficiary – An e-touch
In order to ensure eradication of fraudulent activities, Government of Rajasthan has initiated the biometric identification of the citizens before distributing the facilities using Aadhar. Under this initiative, Point of Sale (POS) machines have been installed at PDS shops, and the beneficiaries receive their quota of entitlements only after the biometric verification using their finger scanning.
Distribution of both PDS and Non-PDS items via FPS
Fair price shops have been developed for the distribution of PDS items such as Rice, Wheat, Levy Sugar, Kerosene Oil and fortified Atta. Also, these shops are responsible for over 150 items of 45 different types of non-PDS items.
Introduction of PPP model in PDS in the form of Annapurna Bhandar Yojana
Government of Rajasthan has introduced the Public Private Partnership model in PDS via Annapurna Bhandar Yojana. This is done to sell multi-brand consumer goods through ration shops at subsidized prices.
